How streaming radio works

Your audio enters your streaming PC or server either directly from your mixer, or via an audio distribution route, into the soundcard. A special piece of software called an “encoder” captures this audio and “encodes” it into a data stream. This data stream is then sent via your internet connection to the Innocast Streaming Server.

The Innocast streaming server distributes the data stream to your listeners (a.k.a. Clients), where their media players decode the data stream back into audio. Depending on your licences (PRS/PPL etc), your stream can be received anywhere in the world, or locked down to the UK only. The Innocast streaming server also makes notes of when each client connected, how long they were tuned in for, and where about in the world they are from. If you decide to purchase Innocast “Web Schedule” you can also see how many times each of this users emailed in, providing you with statistical analysis of listener participation. Plus, if you decide to purchase our “software player”, more detailed statistics can be retrieved.

NSF networks boasted an impressive client list, and provided full websites and CMS systems to those stations. Custom software was also developed to allow stations to track enhanced listener statistics, along with email and SMS participation analysis. In 2005, after a successful run, NSF networks sold the stations back to their original owners and used these proceeds to increase research and development towards new radio broadcast innovations.
